scheduling questions

Q1. What time do 4-year olds attend lessons - you don't seem to have a regular standing schedule?

A. Teaching programs for newcomers who have been assessed are individually scheduled in classes. Age and capability are matched so as to create cohesive self-supporting groups. Except for certain “standard formats” such as the baby courses and certain adult classes, there are no regular, standing schedules allowing newcomers to simply attend.

Q2. Why are most of the classes rescheduled each September?

A. This end of year reschedule is most necessary. Many children start nursery and school and family schedules change resulting in requests for the change of swimming times and days. As children all progress at different levels, we take this opportunity to streamline our pupils in to more suitable classes to aid ‘the learn to swim’ process.

Q3. If I cancel lessons for the summer break, why can I not keep my place or book in advance for the next term?

A. If you cancel lessons you lose your place in the club. Existing pupils who need to change times, siblings and children on the waiting list then take preference for placements. Only after they have been placed are we then able to offer you a place once more.

Q4. Why are make-up classes not available?

A. Throughout the day, when a lesson is booked, be it a regular or a one-off lesson, a teacher is employed and the space in the pool is held open and available. This is a costly practice. We therefore do not offer make-up classes. It also compromises our carefully planned schedule and the other pupils attending their regular lesson who can be disrupted. Besides, consistency and routine are beneficial for advancement of the pupil.

Q5. Why can't we keep our baby swimming day and time indefinitely - our current time and day suits us, we don't want to change?

A. Babies grow and develop, their sleep and feed times change as well as the class structure and need to progress. As this occurs, lesson times need to be re-allocated to allow entrance for the new and younger babies.
